SpaceX obtains FAA approval to perform Starship Flight 3 on March 14 –Watch It Live!

SpaceX has received the green light from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to proceed with the third integrated flight test (IFT-3) of its Starship vehicle. The upcoming test, scheduled for Thursday, March 14, will mark another crucial milestone in the development of SpaceX’s ambitious spacecraft.

Set to take off from Boca Chica Beach in South Texas, weather conditions appear favorable for liftoff, with the test window opening at 7:00 a.m. Central Time (CT). Enthusiasts eager to witness the event firsthand can gather at South Padre Island, Texas, particularly at Isla Blanca Park, offering a direct clear view of the Starship launch tower across the ocean ship channel. Entrance to the park is only $12.00 USD (cash) for a parking spot. However, you must arrive before 7:00 a.m. to beat traffic. Free beach access is also available across the Island, use a map to find a great viewing spot that faces towards the sky above Starbase.

For those unable to attend in person, a Live SpaceX broadcast of the Starship Flight 3 test will commence approximately 30 minutes prior to liftoff, in the video linked below.

For the upcoming Starship IFT-3, SpaceX is focused on achieving several ambitious objectives. These include the successful execution of the ascent burn for both stages, operation of Starship’s payload door in space, a demonstration of propellant transfer during the upper stage’s coast phase, the first-ever re-light of a Raptor engine in space, and a controlled reentry of Starship.

Notably, this flight will feature a new trajectory, culminating in a splashdown in the Indian Ocean. This strategic shift enables SpaceX to explore innovative techniques such as “in-space engine burns while prioritizing public safety,” said the company.

Emphasizing the importance of iterative development, SpaceX highlights that each flight test serves as a crucial step towards realizing its vision of a fully reusable transportation system capable of facilitating crew and cargo missions to Earth orbit, aiding lunar exploration efforts, and eventually enabling human travel to Mars and beyond.

SpaceX continues with its relentless pursuit of innovation and exploration to push the boundaries of space travel, paving the way for a future among the stars.
