SpaceX performed a static fire test of its Super Heavy booster on September 7 at the Starbase facility in South Texas, marking a key milestone in preparations for the 11th test flight of the Starship launch vehicle. The test involved igniting the booster’s 33 Raptor engines for approximately 10 seconds, generating about 17 million pounds of thrust, the highest of any rocket in history!
The booster, designated Booster 15, previously flew on Starship Flight 8 in March 2025, where it was successfully caught by the launch tower’s mechanical arms upon return, demonstrating reusability. This static fire qualifies Booster 15 for its second flight, paired with Ship 38, the final Block 2 upper stage prototype. SpaceX shared video footage of the test on the social media platform X, showing the engines firing while the vehicle remained secured to the orbital launch mount, linked below.

No specific launch date for Flight 11 has been announced, but industry observers anticipate it could occur later in September or early October 2025, pending regulatory approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and favorable weather conditions. The test follows the successful completion of Starship Flight 10 on August 26, 2025, which achieved all major objectives, including the upper stage’s re-entry survival and deployment of Starlink mass simulators, before a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean, as previously reported by Cosmic Chronicles.
Starship is designed for full reusability and supports NASA’s Artemis program for lunar landings, as well as SpaceX’s ambitions for Mars missions. This static fire represents the final major ground test for the booster before integration with the upper stage.
